He is married to his wife, Janie for over forty years. They have four adult married children, Lisa, Dana, Joseph, and Latrice; and are the devoted grandparents of thirteen grandchildren.

He was licensed and later ordained under the leadership of his father and former Pastor, the late Reverend Wilmer Wright. In 1987 Reverend Joseph Wright was elected Pastor of the Community Baptist Church. Many ministries have been established under his leadership and they continue to flourish. Pastor Wright has served as President of the Concerned Pastors of Bristol & Vicinity for 14 years and currently serves as their Advisor.
The church continues to grow, and under the direction of Pastor Wright is presently engaged in a four million dollar Building Project. In this new facility the following ministries may meet the spiritual needs of our families, church and community: Youth Development Ministry, Single Parents Ministry, Singles Ministry, Marriage Ministry, Effective Parenting, Substance Abuse (Prevention/Intervention) Awareness Ministry, Music Ministry, Daycare/Nursery Ministry, Church School, Senior Adult Ministry, Prison Ministry and Homeless Shelter Ministry. We believe that we are the church mindful of its mission. Matthew 28:19-20
Pastor Wright enjoys being a servant of his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. He remains faithful, holding to the principles of God’s Word as he serves home, church and community to win the lost to Christ, build the believer in Christ and to equip the saints for service.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
